The Presidential
Parastatal Sector Reform Commission (PSRC) is an autonomous organ of the
Government and a body corporate established under the Public Corporations
Act, 1992 as amended in 1993 and 1999, to co-ordinate implementation
of the government's economic reform efforts in the form of privatisation.
The Role of the
PSRC:
The PSRC was created to drive the process of
privatisation
in order to create a competitive economy which will operate successfully
internationally, regionally and domestically.
The PSRC
is vested with responsibilities and powers of implementing restructuring
activities in respect of specified State Owned Enterprises, also known as
Parastatals, and specified Government minority shares in privately owned
Companies.
Currently the PSRC is
also dealing with vital issues of retrenchment, debts, utility regulation
and promotion of consultative mechanism between Government and the private
sector.
As privatisation
gains momentum, visible results include a more business friendly
culture, greater foreign investment and export led growth. This is going
to benefit not only Tanzania, but also the increasing number of private
investors who have decided to put their faith, and their capital, in a
country described as "the rising star in Africa."
